Yesterday was the 4th of July parade in Makawao town. It is a sweet parade that I have watched over the years, but this year I got to be in it. For the last few years the Boys & Girls Club of Makawao has participated in the parade and this year I was asked to help the teens. Our responsibility is to pick up the horses poop with shovels and buckets. I drove a Polaris with a trash can for the kids to dump the buckets into. There was a great crowd and we received a lot of support for the job we were doing. It was fun to see the parade from the staging area, and talk with the other participants, a wonderful way to be a part of the upcountry community on our special island of Maui.
