Hurricane Lane Rocket Stove

Matt and I prepared for the hurricane season over six months ago. Now that we are in the midst of Hurricane Lane our emergency supplies have come out. The storm has been downgraded to a category one, but we thought we'd give the Sterno a test run. Matt took a tin can and cut out holes, and a door (and sanded them) to create air flow for the simple stove. We lit it up and cooked up a can of soup for lunch. If we were out of power this would be our source of heating up simple meals like soup and ramen noodles. It feels good to know we continue to be prepared for this hurricane season that runs June through November. Watch the video above to see our little stove perfect for a no power situation.

Varnishing the Collage

I have been working on this collage since June. I used acrylics and oil to paint a frame around the whole piece, and embellished all the pictures with colors. Matt suggested I varnish the piece to give it a finished smooth look. I love how it turned out! Still not finished, but the piece is coming together better than I had imagined. The video above shows a small snippet of the process.
Here's a link to what the collage looked like when I started. I had not glued any of the photos down yet, so now it looks completely different. I love art that can change, and I enjoy the process, it's fun. Click here to see a post I wrote when I started the collage

Sunday at Haleakala National Park

On Sunday Matt and I will do a long run that's usually around an hour. Today was different; two hours for Matt and Gian starting at Sliding Sands and coming out at Halemau'u, and I did an hour out and back on Halemau'u in the crater at Haleakala National Park. The skies were clear and the wind was brisk. The park is just about an hour from our house in Kula, and is well worth a regular visit. The elevation the guys started at was 9000. Halemau'u is at 8,000. The views are spectacular and the Nene are beautiful. The video above is my journey today. Hope to get back soon.

New Favorite Appetizer Dip: Frank's Redhot Buffalo Chicken Dip

If you like to snack on dip, and you like it to make you sweat from the spicy flavors, then Frank's Redhot Buffalo Chicken Dip is the one for you. Frank's is your classic vinegar hot sauce and this is the recipe on the back of the bottle. You can find the whole recipe in the description in my video on YouTube. Make this dip! It will fill you up and is a treat with blue cheese crumbles, cream cheese, and cooked shredded meat to make this dip more like a meal. Yum!
